Whoah! youre moving here? when? *HOPEFULLY* for grad school at either Texas State or UT (#1 choice). I have the qualifications to get into UT, just need to get everything sent off to them for acceptance for the Fall 2008 semester. So I'd move there either January 2008 or early summer 2008. -------------------- |

Maybe for you it will be, but they were screwing my schedule up so badly it wasnt even funny. Plus, it was taking me an hour and fifteen minutes just to get TO school in the morning...ridiculous. I just got accepted to Texas State, though, and took a tour of the campus 2 weekends ago. AWESOME. I suggest you tour both campuses before you spend the money on applying to UT. You'll find that Texas State has an awesome history program and is a much prettier campus. Honestly, UT's campus is ugly and a bunch of bums hang out around it. oh and UT's annual cost for arts and sciences is $3900 and Texas States is $2800. The money you save is insane. |

Yeah, but I want to go all the way through PhD for political science and Texas State only goes through Master's. I figure I could get my Master's at TSU and just apply to the PhD program at UT afterwards, but I wouldn't mind just having it all together at the same school. I'll see though...either way, it will rock for me. And I've heard from other professors about their government department: nothing but good reviews from them. Im sure you wouldnt be stupid enough to live in a different county than UT....I think the commute is really what killed the experience for me. Between work and school... I was driving about 2.5 hours a day. |

UT has plenty of research fellowships and from what i hear coupled with the research they are pretty willing to wave tuition if you are accepted to their grad programs

yeah, when I visited their campus on 4/20....somebody had made a pretty nice sign and hung it around one of the neck of one the statues. The sign said "happy 4/20" and had a picture of a doobie. The tour guide also said there is a bar on campus. I dont know the validity of that though

A bar on campus? At TX State? As much of a party school as it is, I'm pretty sure that they haven't added a bar since I attended school there. There is a *snack* bar, but not an alcohol-serving bar.
The campus is pretty, but it would be better if they kept better care of the fountains. The quality of their academic programs varies widely. Admittedly, the physics department there was great from the standpoint of getting involved with TA'ing and research as an undergrad, even though the school as a whole doesn't have a great rep. Funny, of all the schools I've been to, the one with the best reputation (TTU) probably had the worst department for me. -------------------- |

That's how it was at UNM too. That's why I'm not worried about the direct cost of going to get my PhD in a year or two so much as I am about the reduction in income from full-time engineering job -> stipend for research/teaching assistantship. Gonna need a roomate again when that time comes around, lol.
