IMO... Generations was pretty decent, First Contact was really good, Insurrection was basically just a two-part TV episode and Nemesis was pure shit while all of the original movies follow the odd/even rule.

i think it's a good move for them. i for one never really felt any tie to the original series, except the movies.
that's actually a pretty decent cast... before reading that article i wouldn't have thought it, but damn gary sinise would make a hell of a mccoy. i'm sure they'll kinda modernize the environment as well. imho it's a great idea, will probably get booed by some of the hard core original series people, but will be good to boost interest from the younger crowd. uhura = beyonce

I think the absolute last thing that Paramount needs to do is make a bunch of decisions to appease the fanboys segment. The Star Trek films that have been the most successful - Wrath of Khan, Journey Home, Undiscovered Country, First Contact - have been those that embraced a wide audience with broad themes (revenge, redemption, etc.) and character-driven stories. The films that have been least successful - Final Frontier, Nemesis - were nothing more than masturbatory material for fanboys.
