EQ had some cool shit that they did years ago, with an interactive story.

The most notable was when your server's uberguild was able to kill all 4 of these dragons at the-then highest dungeon in the game, you unlocked an ancient dragon that ran around killing everybody. He was pretty much truly unkillable. When unleashed the entire server would get messages of the mighty dragon talking and being pissed for being woken up - he'd then run around the world, tearing ass and just killing EVERYBODY in the path.

This article implies that WoW doesn't have things like this happen, but I've never asked hardcore WoWers if fun events do occur.

The closest thing to that that I can remember happening was the Zul'Gurub plague... and that was an accident! People in the instance got infected with a thing called "corrupted blood", which which was supposed to kill them. But some people didn't die and ended up spreading the disease outside of the instance.

as far as the article goes... i don't agree with most of what he says...

he says there's not much story?? there's a shit ton of story, it's continuing the story lines from the first warcraft RTS games, and I've actually found the stories pretty interesting.

as far as him bitching that it's just a do this and get that game... all games are that way... you have a goal and once you reach it you recieve some reward.

i think blizzard has done a great job with the game, they introduce tons of new content all the time it seems, keep the different playable characters extremely balanced, have the technical side down very well (try having 7.5 million people playing a game), and keep it interesting.

to date i can think of at least 1 major event. the gates of ahn'qiraji(sp). its a questline that basically requires a whole guild to do a quest that leads to the gathering, which is a huge material gathering event. imagine the whole server gathering warsupplies for both sides. this leads to starting the war, which is a 8? or so hour long outdoor war that everyone can participate and get stuff from.

this eventually leads to opening the 3rd(of 4) major raid dungeons(40), and the 2nd(of2) minor raid dungeons(20man). and it takes probly 2months total to complete.

check around for a video on the questline that the guild does, some really cool scripted shit. well beyond kerafym.

oh and btw, the article was written to obviously enflame WoW as it is the most popular north america mmo. articles of praise get no attention, but a poorly written slam will catch the eyes of a lot of people.
