it's so pathetic that people line up behind Jon Stewart like he's some damn political figure. He's just another dumbass liberal in Hollywood who thinks they have everything figured out. |

It's a comedy show. Oh, and:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/27/c...v_n_191899.html QUOTE This study investigated biased message processing of political satire in The Colbert Report and the influence of political ideology on perceptions of Stephen Colbert. Results indicate that political ideology influences biased processing of ambiguous political messages and source in late-night comedy. Using data from an experiment (N = 332), we found that individual-level political ideology significantly predicted perceptions of Colbert's political ideology. Additionally, there was no significant difference between the groups in thinking Colbert was funny, but conservatives were more likely to report that Colbert only pretends to be joking and genuinely meant what he said while liberals were more likely to report that Colbert used satire and was not serious when offering political statements. Conservatism also significantly predicted perceptions that Colbert disliked liberalism. Finally, a post hoc analysis revealed that perceptions of Colbert's political opinions fully mediated the relationship between political ideology and individual-level opinion. Unfortunately I don't have access to the whole report, because I'm in school anymore and do not have access to those databases. -------------------- Beers that I have had, updated July 5th, 2009: 1,548

Oh please, you really think these guys don't believe all this bullshit they spat off? Did you look at the video of Jon Stewart getting all huffy and heated debating with that guy? Come on. Liberals just pull this "it's just a joke" bullshit whenever they see their favorite politicians *err* I mean hollywood stars being made to look like idiots with facts. |

John Stewart looking like a douchebag... color me suprised.
All of america seems to have rape-victim syndrome. We have a pre-emptive suprise attack declaring war against our nation, and people look for reasons of why WE are the bad guy. Why WE are war criminals. Why WE had it coming because of our actions. Its almost as if saying we are the GOOD GUYS, that we DON'T torture (which we don't and haven't), and that we are in the right is a bad thing. -------------------- |

And yet in a subsequent show, Jon Stewart apologized profusely for calling Truman a war criminal...
But, good video. I do generally like the Daily Show, but I certainly don't agree with everything that Stewart says. Of interest in this particular episode, though, at the end the guest thanked Jon for giving him the best debate he's had of all the shows he's been on. -------------------- |

Yes, it is a comedy show but they present as the news. Plus, Stewart has gone head to head with reporters multiple times about how they suck at their jobs, claiming he can do a better one. At this point, he may be right, his comedy is better than Olbermann's and Maddow's attempts. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Of interest in this particular episode, though, at the end the guest thanked Jon for giving him the best debate he's had of all the shows he's been on. He had to apologize, otherwise he calls into question the abilities of Roosevelt, who started the program and is such an icon of the Democratic method of government. Overall I think Stewart is funny, but at the same time a hypocrite. He has said that the regular news shows are jokes, claims that a lot of people watch him and Colbert for their news, yet it could be argued that he does them a disservice. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

I don't think he claims that people watch his (or Colbert Report) show for news, I don't think he recommends that either. I think people themselves claim they watch Jon Stewart for news, which they probably should not do either. As Jon Stewart says from time to time, it's a show for making of people in the news, and that's all there is to it. -------------------- I go to the maize and blue

If his intention is to make fun of the person he's debating then he's doing a disservice. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |
