We had the interesting experience yesterday of viewing two houses with the same floorplan. Same neighborhood, but several blocks apart. I walked into the second one and immediately said "it's the same house!"
Good layout, though, so it's not a bad thing. This post has been edited by Spectatrix: Feb 23 2009, 02:48 PM -------------------- |

Reminds me of the stories of County courthouses built during the great depression in Texas. -------------------- Southern Rock, beer and bears!

ok... but isn't that gonna almost always be the case unless you have a custom-built house? Many neighborhoods are built around just a few blueprints, though some are more obvious about it than others.

Many neighborhoods are built around just a few blueprints, though some are more obvious about it than others. Virtually every "new" neighborhood built in Colorado in the last 20 years has been a "cookie cutter" neighborhood. It's pretty rediculous IMO. I'm sure it was that way in Vegas and California and anywhere else too. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

I couldn't tell you how often it's the case, but in general if you look at an older neighborhood you'll find more diverse home designs. not to mention homes say, 1970 and older, that were built by craftsmen that cared about their work rather than whatever truckload of mexicans the contractor picked up at home depot that morning.

They all look the same, which is not a problem for the yuppie sheep that don't care about originality. -------------------- |

The neighborhood we live in and the ones we're looking at are based upon a handful of designs, but aren't obviously cookie cutter. I know the kind of neighborhoods you're talking about and I hate them.

I know the kind of neighborhoods you're talking about and I hate them. As long as the houses you're looking at have some individuality... ...but I mean, if you walk into one house that looks so similar to a previous house that you proclaim: "It's the same house!"...then...yeah. -------------------- |

the idea being not just on looks but on resale. i.e. why should a potential buyer buy your house when he can get the same layout down the street for 10% less.
