I have no link cause I'm watching the news at a restaurant, but I just saw a blurb about auto makers putting in a gas pedal that retracts or pushes back when you accelerate too fast. seriously, what the hell is this country coming to?

I doubt there's much truth to it or that it will really happen. They already have torque management systems in most new vehicles anyways, that keep you from accelerating too much. They're just currently there for different reasons (keeping you from blowing up stuff and making them actually make good on their warranties). |

Doesn't seem like it would, but I don't know a thing about cars other than I put my key in, turn it, and go while shifting every now and then. ![]() -------------------- Spam? it's basically just a fancy rev-limiter, so yeah I'd imagine it'd work on a manual too.

QUOTE TOKYO -- Nissan Motor Co. soon will sell cars that push back when drivers try to put the pedal to the metal.
The Japanese carmaker on Monday announced its new "ECO Pedal" system, which makes the gas pedal press upward when it senses motorists are speeding up too quickly. Nissan says the system, which will be available next year, can help drivers improve fuel efficiency 5 to 10 percent. It calculates the most efficient rate of acceleration in a vehicle based on how fast fuel is being burned and other factors and causes the gas pedal to push back to alert overzealous drivers. Nissan says the system is designed to help drivers become more fuel efficient behind the wheel. Drivers can also opt to switch the system off. -------------------- Beers that I have had, updated July 5th, 2009: 1,548

I know what the article says jackass. It can help improve fuel efficiency without pushing back on the pedal. Just like the current rev limiters do.
