I have been very apathetic about politics in the past, and I still am for the most part; however, I do think McCain is one of the strongest Republican candidates in recent years. I really do think he would be a great leader for this country.

So peb, spec, no response? Do you like giving your money to the government without any added benefit? Do you like paying for big government? Do we really want more programs to pay for? Why not make the ones we have more efficient? And yes, we're paying for them. We are paying for them. And you want to pay more. Why? I really want to know why you want this. Is it simply because Obama is not republican? I really think that's why. If that is your reason, that's fine. But do not try to sell to everyone you're voting Obama because he'd make the better president. Because no way, no how. I thought we were all tired of politicians who would say whatever it takes to get votes. Atleast Hillary had a reasonable plan. 8 years she said it would take for universal health care. That's reasonable. But of course, Obama will say what people like to hear, so he promises better. Yeah right. Let's rush into things. Good plan.

Hillary had a lot better ideas than Obama all around. I didn't want her as President, but she is a lot more capable and experienced than Obama.

So I pull three things out of this: 1) Me and Spectatrix want to pay higher taxes (simply untrue) 2) Obama's overarching plan is a lie and he will say anything to get elected (which there's no argument against unless someone here can read Obama's mind) 3) You don't understand Obama's tax proposals. Based on that, no, I don't have a response to your previous argument. -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome! That's reasonable. But of course, Obama will say what people like to hear, so he promises better. Yeah right. Let's rush into things. Good plan. I think all politicians (with very few exceptions, like Ron Paul) are money-grubbing whores. Obama and McCain are probably both lying about aspects of their tax plans. And while the President's plans aren't irrelevant, it is worthy of note that Congress has to pass these things first.... Since we'll likely see a heavy democratic majority in Congress next year, budgets and tax proposals are going to have liberal leanings anyway. Now if McCain were veto-happy, that might not matter, but he doesn't strike me as the sort that would be. But no, I don't like paying for big government. You should know that from my posts on here and my support of Ron Paul. And no, it's not because Obama isn't republican. I'm quite insulted that you think me that single-minded. For the umpteenth time: not a single-party voter. Not a democrat, not a republican, usually end up voting about half-and-half. I have already, in this very thread, given some of the reasons why I support Obama over McCain, so I don't feel the need to go into them again. Plain and simple, Obama has said he will raise taxes, for oil companies, for couples making over a certain amount, etc. but instead of doing away with debt he increases the number of programs the U.S. will have for the "social good".

Isn't the most important piece of that the bottom line, McCain's cut are more based on the average. What Obama's cuts prove is that everyone is equal, some are just more equal than others. People in the bottom rung don't pay that much in taxes as it is, so assuming that giving them a 5% cut in taxes is going to motivate them to go stimulate the economy is retarded. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

People don't understand taxes, that's why Obama's speeches work. I wonder what the percentage of Americans who have ever seen a tax bracket is.

I still think it's absolutely ridiculous to tax the wealthiest so much because they are the ones who have the buying power to really stimulate the economy.
