I believe it is because affirmative action allows less-qualified people to get a job based on their race or sex. A person of African or Hispanic origin (especially if they're female) will get a job over a more qualified Caucasian man because of this racist law.
Raise up with me white brothers! We're not going to take this racism any longer! |

actually, my roommate glen and i have the same opinion on this. all of the educated black and hispanic people we know HATE affirmitive action, because no matter how hard they work and make good grades even if they earn their job, everyone thinks they only got it because of affirmitive action.

Same here. Affirmative action helped years ago, but is now horribly outdated/obsolete. -------------------- |

Its more about where you come from economically than about race. Rich kids come from rich parents, uneducated poor from uneducated poor. I say get to the kids so they can compete fairly when they are older.

I don't HATE affirmative action, but it definitely needs tweaking. I think that need based should be based solely on economics.
I always tease my business friends though when they bitch about a government contract going to a hispanic owned business. "Don't like it? Marry a beaner and have the company in their name." |

We're not going to take this racism any longer! You are virtually gaurenteed job offers from government agencies or large corporations if you are a woman or a minority that can even act like you're BARLEY qualified for a job. This is the result of the fear of lawsuits more than anything. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

wouldn't change anything Sure it would. There are tons of economically disaffected white people that would benefit from this shit. Their skin color is the only thing that keeps them from it and that isn't appropriate in today's society. But that's really my opinion. I have it pretty well off with my family. Yet down the street, there are white families that struggle with their farms and can't afford to send their children to school, yet my brother and I get scholarships because of our ethnicity. Total BS. It should go to need based. |

it is need based...
just cause it isn't fully paid for...i'm sure if they looked (i know what you're gonna say here, but woody, they've done non-stop searching and didn't get one.) they'd find assistance. grades in HS help, once your done and you're in regret mode, it's a little too late. -------------------- |

At most state universities, all you gotta do even if you're white is check the box on your application that says you're black or a mexican or pretty much anything that isn't white and you automatically get a discount on your tuition and they never even check to see. I know a lot of people who do that. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!
