the jobs ive applied for required a background degree in human development and/or psychology, bilingual and counseling experience - for starters. but no doubt a philo grade could get some type of social work job and probably some others. i think i even recommended one on here to you once when you were talking about trying to find a job months ago (CPS)

lance - yeah basically every MHMR is fucked up. you have people that are fucked up, little resources to help them, and internal/external politics that seem to only being counteractive to actually helping children and families. yet at the same time you can see how it actually does work. what does your girlfriend do?

I think the bottom line is, in this day and age, unless you get a PhD you get a shitty job.

I mean really, the kinds of jobs that most of us get with bachelor's degrees suck dick on all fronts as best I can tell.

I really wish I could afford to go back to grad school and maybe actually learn something useful.

you know, i honestly felt like things were changing for once. A lot of the belittling had stopped. Yeah, people argued but it stayed on topic more. Whatever. Guess some people never change.

I got my degree in POLITICAL Science (learn how to spell it correctly if you're going to make fun of it), and I managed to get a campaign manager position quite easily without a Ph.D. But I am now a Law Clerk for a Judge in the 4th Court of Appeals, you know... the highest Appellate Court in the State of Texas, until I go to Law School. Jerk.

eh... I think your work experience may have had more to do with you getting that position than your actual degree choice.

Really, I think what we can gather from this thread is it doesn't matter so much what your major is (exceptions of course), but more what you do WHILE YOU ARE IN SCHOOL as in internships, volunteering, getting published, etc. I am having to rely on my publications because I couldn't intern this summer due to my pregnancy. Hopefully, that is enough for me to get a position in Savannah. I have been looking at some sites, and one of the news stations there is hiring for a web writer. I would like to do something like that. I had a job offer to do that exact thing for KFOX news in El Paso. I'm going to put together a really nice portfolio of my publishings to take to Savannah. That's actually what I'm working on now.

yeah, i can agree with that. part of what made my job and grad school searches easy is that I had vice presidents from Tech making phone calls for me and campaigning for my employment. That probably made a lot of difference.

Yeah, I can definitely agree with what Jessica said. I got my jobs through my connections in school, family, and internships that I had.

Well I think the degrees discussed in this thread are the exception, but what you said seems to be true for them.

engineering and nursing are the 2 exceptions that come to my mind. BTW I consider CS a form of engineering...more so nursing than anything. That's like the absolute easiest career to find a job in.
