I like the name Cavan (I cant remember the exact spelling) also. It's an Irish name. We are also considering the name Donovan (but people keep saying that sounds black... what do you all think? oh and I don't want people calling him Donny) and Colin.

do not punish your kid to years of ridicule being called "colon" seriously doubt he will have blonde hair as we both have dark hair

exactly, at some point humans are going to have to move from a consumerist society to post-consumerist society what will that be like? i think people will be living more in harmony with the earth and live in smaller self-sufficient villages instead of large cities Partially true... we will lose suburbia. Big cities have always and WILL always be around. If anything, they are easier to maintain because of the compact style of them (The londons and New Yorks). The first thing to go will be the LONG distances traveled from suburia into the cities. Instead small, self sufficient, villages will arise. The east coast has it easier when it comes to energy because of the abundance of water (rivers, streams) that can be utilized for energy. Kiss vegas good bye. Further, kiss cheap products from around the world good bye... when it costs more to ship them, we will just make them here (or at least mexico lololol). Honestly though, if america would stop buying shitty SUV's that get 7mpg we wouldn't be in this mess. Trucks aren't needed except in select situations, in which you can easily have a rental service. We need to embrace smaller, more fuel efficient cars. -------------------- |

I love the nice, broad ideas that get presented in these kinds of conversations, with zero real solutions.
Cat: "If we'd just all decide to live more efficiently, blah blah". Haha ok, I'll decide tomorrow to never use gasoline again. Yeah, right. I'll decide I don't need electricity or running water either. Lance: "Let's all grow weed and live off weed oil and make thatched roof huts to live in made of weed". That doesn't even deserve a response bud and you know it. You don't just decide to instantly make solar panels 99.9999% efficient. You don't just decide to instantly make all vehicles 200mpg with each spewing out 700hp and can tow 50,000 lbs. It doesn't happen overnight. So seriously, the solutions "just do better" are fucking stupid. Better, more efficient ways of living come with time and hard work. Not via hippies crying around the campfire. |

People discussing how the world should be, or at least move toward, is a lot more intelligent than your dumb ass coming in here, calling people hippies and suggesting that "the future" will solve the problem... gee thanks. -------------------- |

I just think it's slightly ignorant (?) to suggest solutions that are obviously not feasible right now. There is no immediate answer to the fuel crisis. We need something here and now. Our goods prices are going up NOW, not 6, 7, 8 years down the road when alternative fuel sources and electric cars are probably going to be more readily available. What do we do about this dilemma NOW? People have to make a living. People just can't up and quit their job or buy a new home just because they live too far from their job. My husband can't help the fact that he lives nearly an hour from work. We have a lease contract, and I go to school here in San Marcos while he works in San Antonio. Bread is almost $3. Fast food prices are quickly skyrocketing. Diesel fuel is at $4.20 a gallon now. It's costing truckers over $1000 to fill up their tank to deliver products we use every day. I don't think you people get it. OUR COUNTRY RELIES ON GASOLINE RIGHT NOW. Every aspect of our lives is controlled by it. The food we eat, the soap we use, the books we read, the letters we receive, the pillows we sleep on.... All shipped to stores via trucks and airplanes. You can't tell us to back off a fuel source. That would cost trillions of dollars more. We need a solution like drilling elsewhere. The countries of the world need to stand up to OPEC. We need to do something NOW before our country is pushed into a fucking depression all because of $4.00/gal gas prices.

impala and jessica = fucking idiots
hemp is a solution that is feasible NOW... cheap energy, grows fast and many harvests a year, can grown anywhere, and would solve our dependence problem on foreign oil... george washington grew hemp and used it to make paper, ropes, and other textiles "Make the most of the hemp seed and sow it everywhere." -George Washington http://www.hempcar.org/ thechicken is talking sense, i like it! |
