I haven't read a lot of it but I'm going to try and finish on my flight tomorrow. Nothing better than spending eight hours reading about government waste.

People being inefficient and wasting money is a fact of life. Get used to it IMHO. You could come out with a book like this for every single budget on the planet, from 16 yr old johnny who just got his first job sacking groceries, to the biggest fortune 500 company, and anyone in between.

This is just another one of those cases where people are wowed by large numbers and can't really see the numbers in context. The federal budget is what, like 3 trillion dollars? and people are gonna get their panties in a wad because 17 billion was "pork"? Because yeah that extra 0.5% would have made some massive difference.

Sorry for the rant bud, I'm sure it's an interesting read. I just hate how people tend to make a mountain out of a molehill when it comes to EVERYTHING nowadays.

I'm not making a mountain out of molehill, I just think it's interesting to see where portions of the government's spending goes.

Of course there is waste, but there are ways to reduce the waste to help balance the budget. Making $18 billion out to be menial is choosing to ignore waste instead of addressing it. What's wrong with addressing $18 billion in waste? I can think of a lot of things that the government could do with $18 billion that would not be considered waste.

I know where you're coming from, but we have to hold the government accountable (hence why I love living in Texas with the balanced budget system). If we just allow continual pork spending continue the problem just gets worse and $18 billion turns into $100 billion turns into $1 trillion [eventually].

A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?
