Funny, I met quite a few guys in lubbock who were my age who played hockey growing up in Houston. From the times I went down there to play, I gathered there were quite a few rinks there, but there had been several rinks there in various parts of the city for a great many years. There were over 4,000 youth hockey players in the DFW area in 2005 according to USA hockey. Youth amature hockey is alive and strong in Texas, and apparently has been for quite some time. Dude, I dunno how to get it across to you, when I was growing up around here, ice hockey was not played by anyone. I played football, basketball, baseball, and some kids I knew played soccer. nobody played ice hockey. Your point that 4,000 kids in DFW play it is irrelevant. You were attempting to attribute my dislike for hockey because I wasn't good at it. My point is nobody played it, so that's impossible. So cough up some numbers about the apparently immense population of youth hockey players in the greater houston area from 1979-1998 and I'll shuttup.

people play hockey in houston. not as much as say, michigan, but it still exists.

well what were the numbers for houston back in 1991?
I didn't really mean to say nobody played it as in zero, just that it wasn't very common at all. everybody played the standard football/baseball/basketball. soccer was just barely starting to become popular when i got to around 13-14 years old. |

Obviously not always the case, but most the people who say "hockey sucks" just don't understand it or don't appreciate the difficulty due to never playing it.
