While I understand the guy's frustration, this limit is imposed by other banks as well. I had the problem with Wells Fargo.

I hate to burst anyone's "I Hate Bank of America" bubble but just about every bank and credit card company impose these sorts of limits...with debit and credit cards. Its fraud protection at its finest. See, back in the day, people were responsible for the charges accrued when a card was stolen. Now days, the banks and card companies usually offer fraud protection. If that card had been stolen, the bank would have been liable for that $5800 charge. Just about every checking account has daily limits that cannot be exceeded. All the jackass (I call him this because he must live under some sort of rock) had to do was go to the bank and withdraw the funds. Plan ahead for big debit and credit purchases. It's not rocket science.

I suppose if you regularly spend over $5,000 out of your checking account, check cards are not for you.

Most banks set check card daily spending limits based on an individual's account, so you may have to call the bank to find out what your limit is. Citibank posts its daily limits on its Web site: For a Gold account, it's $2,000; for Everything accounts, $2,000; all others, $1,000. Bank of America lets each customer set his or her own daily limit.

Most credit unions have the daily spending limit posted clearly on their Web sites and the limits generally range from $1,000 to $3,000.

Yeah. You really should plan big purchases like that in advance with your bank.

But BoA still sucks.
