So, ladies, what do you all think of the down on one knee thing? I am proposing on Saturday evening at our favorite dancehall in the Austin area and I am thinking of just slipping the ring on her finger while we dance instead of getting down.
Thoughts? -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Obviously I'm no lady but sounds like a pretty awesome idea.

It's cute, but what you're planning sounds good too.

Just don't do like my friend August, who tied the ring around his dick then asked for a blowjob

if I ever propose to a girl I'm going to put the ring around my cock and make her suck it off.
that way I'll know for sure she still loves me even though my penis is small and insignificant -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

My boyfriend proposed to me and didn't get down on one knee. I think that's an old-fashioned custom. I liked that he didn't because that would have have been weird to me

It depends. If you are going to get on your knee just to say "will you marry me?" and then get up again, then don't do it, because it seems trite, like you're only doing it because you're "supposed" to. If you say something romantic to her first while you're dancing, a la whisper it in her ear, then maybe at the end of the song the knee would be appropriate.
It all boils down to the kind of girl she is. Some women find it chauvinistic, some find it romantic and would want nothing less. Which of those descriptions does she fall under? When Jason got on his knee I started crying. But we were somewhere private. Is your girl the kind that wants the outward display where the whole place knows exactly what you're doing at the same time she's figuring it out and all watching you, and more importantly her for her answer? Congratulations, by the way [PS - if you are going to assume that her answer is yes by slipping the ring on her finger without asking her first, you better be damn sure she will say yes!] -------------------- Forget regret

I'd agree that the down on one knee thing is a bit old fashioned. But that's not necessarily a bad thing if that's what your girl is into. My only advice is that you know her best. Go with your gut.

Thanks for the tips!
I am almost 100% sure she will say yes. I know that if we were somewhere private she would want me to be on one knee, but being surrounded by a bunch of people, I don't think she'll like everyone staring at her. My gut says, her favorite song will be playing and we'll be dancing, and I'll whisper whatever I'm going to say and then show the ring and ask. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Sounds like you have a good plan, Hartmann! I probably wouldn't like the down-on-one-knee thing out in public either, though in private would be fine. I don't think it's an old-fashioned custom, just wouldn't want a hugely public proposal.
Now asking her father for permission to marry her and him "giving away the bride" at the wedding... *those* are old-fashioned things that would piss me off. But that's just me! -------------------- |

But that's just me! better that than your future husband paying your father a dowery consisting of a couple cows, camels, goats and other such live stock..... when your worth can be measured in livestock, it must suck -------------------- |

Actually, a dowry is property provided by the bride's family to the husband. You're thinking of bride price.
