Ok. So I'm going to buy a new MP3 player. I haven't decided which one I want to get. I've pretty much narrowed to these two:

iPod classic
Pros
almost 3x as much storage space
easy to use
compatible with os x
Cons
lack of video codec support

Creative Zen Vision:W
Pros
Lots of codec support
Nice screen
Cons
Crappy user interface
Clunky
Not mac-compatible

The fact that the Zen isn't mac compatible isn't necessarily a deal-breaker, but it does make the Vision more of a pain to use as I'll only be able to use it on my boyfriend's computer or using VMWare Fusion.

Oh, and one other thing. Please no fanboism. I really don't care to read any "Apple 1S TEH SUX0RZ!" posts. Same goes to the people who would advocate the ipod just because it's an apple product.

What is the main feature are you going to be using it for music or videos? If videos then I'd definitely go with the vision:W

easy to use is a pro for the iPod?

Iøm pretty sure most MP3 players I've dealt with are pretty easy to use...

and it all depends how much storage you think you need...personally 30\60 Gb is not enough...

thatøs my two cents...

Mainly music, but it would also be nice to be able to play back some videos on the bus ride to school.

I think 30GB would be enough for me, but it would certainly be nice to have 80GB.

And I've used some of creative's mp3 players. They're really packed with features, but the user interface is the least intuitive thing I've ever used. And the reviews I've read have said about the same for the vision:w.

your cons of the ipod can be fixed. videos can be converted.
the cons of the zen can't be fixed. you can't fix the interface or the clunkiness.

I was going to say this.

There are a million converters out there that can convert from all formats. Only problem is they take forever and a day to convert a two hour movie (upwards of 12 hours). I heard Quicktime Pro can convert them in much less time (1-2 hrs) but I don't feel like spending $29.95 to find out

Fuckmuffin. That word and muffintop are the two coolest things I've ever seen on this place. What would happen if a fuckmuffin fucked a chick with a muffintop? That's a lot of muffins. A lot of motherfuffin muffuckins.

a couple more:

Zen:
Standard Headphone jack
Replaceable battery
FM Radio
Calendar & Contacts that sync w/outlook
No DRM/iTunes required
70% larger screen

As far as the UI, I guess it's personal preference, but from the flash video it doesn't look that bad to me. I'll have to do a best buy run on my lunch break and check em out wink.gif

Why the hell do you need your contacts on a portable MP3 player? That's what desktops, laptops, PDA's, cell phones, and rolodexes are for.

Neither are required for iPods either.

Winamp 5.2 has iPod support built-in.
